I'll give you the sun...

Here is another drawing from the series that I am creating using my sweet dream flower character and nightmare character. In this drawing, the flower character is creating the sun in his peaceful universe out of the magical pollen coming from his flowery head. Once I finish the digital color version of this drawing, I will upload it onto Blogspot. I should hopefully have it done either later today, or some time tomorrow. Comments, suggestions, and critiques are always appreciated. Enjoy. - Sergio
Below is the colored version of my sketch from above. All of the coloring was done on Photoshop. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but then I've also been staring at this drawing for hours, so some fresh eyes would be a good thing. I would love and appreciate feedback from anyone who is looking at the drawing (both the sketch and the colored drawing). If you have any color suggestions or just think that I have no coloring skills on Photoshop and can give me feedback... then so be it... haha. I want your advice. Enjoy!

This is just a suggestion, you don't have to listen if you don't want to. I like the flower guy, and a cute simple story about him would make a wonderful childrens book. The nightmare guy is cool, but he looks a little scary for a childrens book. I think kids who would appreciate that kind of character would probably need to be a little older...if those kids are still reading illustrated childrens books. Do you understand what I mean? I'm just saying you might want to think about who your audience is and what age this book would be aimed at. I don't think it's a bad idea to have the nightmare guy. But if he's going to be in it you might want to tone him down some. Ask yourself if he needs to be that scary. OR, if you're not sure about it, maybe the book could be part of a series where the nightmare guy comes in later. But for now if it were a simple book focused on the flower guys personality...I think that would be really nice.

But that's me. :)

Hey, thank you for your suggestions. Yeah I'm still sort of working out the nightmare character's design. He's a little tough. I don't want him to be too scary, but I also don't want him to be cute. So trying to find the middle, for me, is the hard part. haha. But I'm going to do a few more design sketches of the nightmare character to see if I can come up with anything a little more fitting. The story that I'm writing is pretty dark, and so it's actually more for an young adult audience, so trying to figure out how I'm going to write it is also the complicated part. I enjoy the drawing part of it more than the writing part... haha.. I just need to take some time, outline it, and flesh it out.

No problem, Im glad to help. Whatever you decide, just remember the story is a reflection of who you are, so the strongest path will bring the best of you out in your story. :)

Your a good artist. I wish you luck.
